Busty Teela

Not so much an illustration project as a mindless bit of fun. Most people of my generation grew up watching He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. They may also remember his female ally Teela, helping defend Eternia from the likes of Skeletor and his evil cronies.

What my contemporaries may not recall is just how curvy Teela was; either that or artistic license can be a dangerous thing.

Wait, there's more: For those not in the know “Battleground Teela” is a character from the range of "classic" Masters of the Universe toys. Her outfit is based not on that of regular Teela, from the He-Man cartoon and toyline, but rather from the limited run of DC comics from back in the 80's (get’s complicated doesn’t it?)
Essentially for some reason the makers of the comic decided to put her in a gold bikini. Going one-step further, I made her outrageously curvy… just for the fans.

  1. It wasn't just Masters of the Universe that was like this. A number of the women in cartoons by Filmation were surprisingly "curvy" for either a Saturday morning or weekday afternoon cartoons show:

And Filmation seemed to have a lot of "ass shots" in their cartoons too. Considering the censorship going on in cartoons during the 1970's and 1980's, I'm amazed they got away with it.

  2. They were curvy, true. Incidentally male cartoon characters were wearing much less than those of today. He-Man now wears pants... http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=45370 ...I do think that a drift towards increased violence and yet prudishness is an odd combo, not much more violent but notable in the 2000X He-Man cartoon. However at the same time that's how it was back in the golden age (Superman, Popeye, Tom and Jerry could punch the living crap out of each other, whilst He-Man in the 80's barely did).

  3. Now that you mention it, He-Man and Skeletor really weren't wearing much, were they? At least Filmation was "equal-opportunity" when it came to scantily clad heroes and heroines ;-)

    1. True. I mention prudishness, doesn't seem to apply to female characters now; so there is a visual inequality going on these days.
